Security and Sleep

Hubby and I have an ADT alarm system in our home. We also have electrical wires surrounding our entire home's perimeter. Does this sound a bit much? It used to, but not anymore. In our neighbourhood every single home has this type of security. That and VERY noisy dogs which usually keep the neighbourhood awake.

Our electrical wiring

It is very common to have people honk their horns outside your neighbour's house at 6am, 7am, they don't care that you could be asleep. It's not that I think they are intentiionally unaware, but I believe they don't even think about it. It is just a way of life here, so that I have got to get used to. The barking dogs who are not told to shut it, the honking of horns all hours of the day, the loud music, the broken mufflers, etc....

Last night we were awoken by a neighbours alarm going off in their house. Hubby went to check if everything was alright - they weren't home. This was around 1 in the morning. The alarm didn't shut off until just past 6:30 today. Where was ADT? Where were the police? That is what we'd really, really like to know. It really was that loud.

We can get past all of the other noise, actually I've grown to appreciate it somewhat. Less by-laws. Where I come from we joke that there are by-laws for by-laws. It really can get out of hand.  Too many, or not enough. A perfect compromise would be great. Like Switzerland!

Ahhh.....One can only dream :)

Hope you all had a better sleep!!!!

The horn honking drives me CRAZY! I think it's incredibly rude how people here honk their horn instead of getting out of the car and ringing the doorbell/knocking. The house and car alarms make me crazy too! I know exactly what you mean how sometimes they go off and last for hours! It's to the point that people don't even pay attention when they hear an alarm. I think Mexico is a very noisy country in general and it's just part of their culture.

That happened to me once when someone's car alarm went off ... ALL NIGHT. My room was right by the apartment parking lot.

I'm a little concerned that ADT didn't do much.

Jackie - You too!! Yay, I'm not alone... The horn honking is just rude, but I truly believe it doesnt' cross their minds?? I also completely agree about the alarm going off and not caring. Hubby only looked to give me some reassurance. Otherwise, we normally wouldn't!!! Yes, it is a noisy country in general... I mean from exhausts on cars, to taxis honking, regular honking, alarms, music, the gas man!! hahahaha :)

Gringation - YES!!! It was soooooo loud, and we have pretty good windows. I swear. It was THAT loud. We even put on our A/C to drown out the noise!!!

As far as ADT - we are too. Why didn't they have someone go and check it out? I know they have the power to turn the alarm off remotely. My only guess is the neighbours don't actually pay for the service anymore, and somehow a fuse just set the alarm off...? Any time we have set our alarm off ADT calls immediately for security verification.

What is it with loud music and barking dogs!!?? :) I can never get a good night sleep when I stay with my friend. Then early morning the loud speaker with selling whatever .. geezzz! I'm on vacation!

My neighbors in back of me used to have karaoke parties lasting until 4-5 in the morning during the week. Wouldn't have been so bad if they could sing. I've never heard a bunch of Mexicans sing so off-key in my life! I dreamed of throwing oranges at them. One good thing has come out of the drug wars of Reynosa.... not as many parties any more.

KfromMich - Hahaha, yeah? Don't they realize people are on vacation!!! LOL!!!

IMBCTLIM - I've honestly never heard a terrible sounding Mexican karaoke group, but I can only imagine.... Throwing oranges isn't too bad, but I'd be scared to do it in Reynosa :)

Ash - I think we can all agree the horn honking is obnoxious!! ADT... Maybe we need to switch? LOL!

Amanda - You are very lucky you are in a great quiet neighbourhood! Enjoy it amiga! I can't believe someone told you to be quiet? I've never heard of that here!! LOL!!

Ruby - Yeah, it's very loud in Mexico. I just can't imagine my neighbourhood in Canada ever being okay with it. Heck, I'd get in trouble when I was a kid playing street hockey with my brothers at 4 in the afternoon as the neighbours baby was sleeping! Hahaha - so yeah.... OH and the roaming dogs is so sad, and sometimes SCARY! LOL!!
