I know I've been MIA from the blogging world lately. I have so much catching up to do on everyone's blogs, and probably have a few stories worthy of a post myself.
My BFF Abby left yesterday and it was so sad watching her leave. I actually was spoiled as she extended her stay an additional 3 days so I can't complain. I do miss her though. Abby used to live here in Cancun with me 8ish years ago. She speaks fluent Spanish as she completed part of her Business Degree in Cordoba, Argentina a few years ago. It was great having her back here with me. It was probably the first time since I've been married that we've been able to spend this much time together at once.
We did a bunch of touristy things, and since I'm not the best story teller or writer I will spare you with all the details. However, with that being said I will give you a bit of an idea.... Pictures are worth more than words sometimes, right???
Us girls went to Carlos n' Charlies
A trip is not complete w/out a VIP experience :)
Had to have a BBQ/pool party with our friends :)
A trip to the Tulum Ruins!!!
Puerto Morelos for the day!
All in all we had a great time together, and I'll be in Calgary in a month or so. I can't wait :)
I am a proud Canadian living south of the border in Cancun, Mexico. I left the snow behind for the sand, and am learning to love my new life!

Another Saturday in Isla!
Wow, what a weekend we had. Unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperating and we were unable to head on over to Isla Contoy again. Next time we make plans to go I will not blog about the possibility until after our trip. Maybe I'm jinxing us?
Hubby woke us up on Saturday morning bright and early. We debated Cozumel? Or Isla Mujeres? I've never been to Cozumel and really want to go, but again with the weather being crappy we thought a shorter boat trip would be best.
With a few calls placed to our friends, we had a party. Quick shower and out the door we went. Stopped at an Oxxo grabbed beers, Clamato, limes and some tequila. We caught the noon ferry over to the island. Apparently one leaves the port every half an hour!
What did we do? What didn't we do!! Had lunch as soon as we got there at some seafood place on the beach, went and played soccer on North Beach, and then rented some golf carts until it was time for dinner at Rolandi's. It was our friend Ricardo's birthday so we were sure to grab a guitarist for the evening. However, I do think hubby sang louder than our paid entertainment!!!
After all was said and done we grabbed the ferry back home around midnight and felt it was one heck of a day. Definitely the most time any of us have spent in Isla for sure. What a blast!!!
Can't wait to do it all over again, but maybe with a few less margaritas during the day, and less wine at night :)

Believe it or not, but a nice man came out of his house to take this for us - he was eating dinner!!

Catches up with ya!!
Well, this past week has been full of non-stop action!!! We have been so busy with birthdays', anniversary parties, visiting family, etc... We have had absolutely no time alone!!!!
This past Thursday we had dinner with family, and afterwards we ended up heading down to Playa with some friends to celebrate their wedding anniversary. We went to John Gray's Kitchen which has a fantastic location in Playa, and after a few drinks and tapas we were off to Coco Bongos. Now, I've partied a many nights at the Coco Bongo's location in Cancun, but this was a first for me at this location. All in all it is pretty much the same you get in Cancun, but on a MUCH smaller level. Still a GREAT time, and we were taken care of in rock-star fashion. Well, we ended up getting home at 5:30 in the morning!!! Oh man, remind me not to do that again!! I just can't handle it anymore.
Saturday was even better. It was one of our closest friends birthday parties. We were given a catamaran for the day, and we took full advantage. The sun was shining, the breeze was perfect, and the water even better. We stopped for a late lunch on Isla Mujeres, but other than that we were on the waters the entire day.
We got back to Cancun around 7:00, and decided the party was only just beginning. We ended up going to our friends house for the night, and had even more friends join us. Don't you just love "unplanned" nights? They always turn out to be so much fun as you had zero expectations. Just love it.
Well, now that the weekend is over I am SICK. I woke up Sunday morning with the WORST sore throat I've had in YEARS. Seriously, I can see white spots on the back of my throat! NASTY! Today it is accompanied with congestion, and a cough. GREAT. My first cold/flu in a year!!! For those of you that don't know - you now need a prescription for ANY antibiotic here in Mexico. So this cold/flu is going to stick around until I see my Doc, but I want to wait one more day to see if I can fight this on my own.
I guess that is what I get for trying to keep up with the young ones. LOL!! I am only making fun of myself as of course I get sick the 2 times I go party. Seriously, what luck is that? My friends who party a few nights a week never seem to get sick. What is their secret???
No exercising for me the next few days. I can already feel the difference, it sucks. I am training for a half marathon by the way. I think I forgot to mention that to you guys??? Oh well, that is for another blog post!!!
Chat sooooon amigos/as!!!! Gonna make me some soup :)

What the heck have I been up to?
I've been taking a wee little break from blogging lately for a few reasons. One of which was time. We have had our best friends visiting from Canada stay with us for the last 15 days, and we were very busy playing tourist with them. Ohhh how much fun we had. We went down to the Bahia Principe for 5 days, Xcaret, Isla Mujeres and of course Cancun!!
Another reason for my absenteeism has been mi casa. Ohhh I don't know where to begin. We have been so busy trying to get it "ready" for our guests, and "ready" for us that I just don't know when this project will end? It may not look like we've done a lot to others, but we have spent half a years rent fixing the place up!! Cleaning out our water pumps on the roof, adding pressure tanks, cleaning, painting, plumbing, electrical, etc... The list goes on and on. I'll have to post some pics....
My biggest nightmare has been dealing with our shipping company from Canada. Why oh why did we ship our things?? If it were up to me we never would have, but the decision was out of my hands. The container was loaded in Cgy Canada on the 9th of December. It went straight to Vancouver port area. Was supposed to arrive in Cancun between the 15th and 17th of January. Great. Then when it didn't arrive we were told Superbowl Sunday (mid Feb). That didn't sound right, and guess what? It wasn't. Then we started getting a little feisty with the company and were told Mexican customs were holding us up, and were questioning the value of our goods, etc... They wanted us to pay tax as if everything were brand new. Which it wasn't. Okay, believable. We were told it would arrive on the 6th of March. So no problem, on the 4th I confirmed it was still scheduled for the 6th. The 5th I inquired? Was told - they would look into it. I get an email at 9pm that night advising "blah blah blah we are so sorry, but we sent the wrong container and your container is still in Canada, blah blah blah". So basically I have been even more mad as not only do they still have all our things in Canada, but also they think I am stupid enough to believe all the stories from before. Customs my ass.
The story goes on and on, and supposedly the container was loaded on the 10th of March and confirmed to have left Vancouver for Cancun. We'll wait and see....
I would write more, but am too tired to even write about it at this point. I have had to tell the story a million times, and now it's just exhausting. Wow is this a lesson learned.
If you are thinking about ever shipping anything to Mexico, make sure you use a company that knows what the hell they are doing, and have experience dealing with Mexico.
All for now - my mom arrives tomorrow and have to get ready for that!!

A friend moves to Mexico!!!!
Well, as some of you know I used to work in Cancun 5 years ago before moving to Canada and getting married. I was working for a little company out of the US called MTV. You know, just a little one!!! Well...I made a TON of friends during that time. Heck, I lived in 4 different locations #1Salvia ...better known as Saliva. #2 Maralago.... Unbelievable. #3, Costa Real Presidential Suite(10 of us roomed together), and #4 Avenida La Luna.
All in all. Fantastic. Moving around like that I had the pleasure and opportunity to have MANY roomates at any given time. Some were great, some were not.... LOL. I was always the only Canadian, and used to laugh when I'd hear " You dont' look Canadian, You don't dress Canadian" - How do we look and dress?? That I'll never seem to get... LOL. In all fairness, most of my roomates were from NYC - they lived and breathed NY. They admitted they just didn't think outside of NYC. I now get it. I was there visiting them in March and it is unbelievable!!!
Okay, so I'm getting off track..... Back to business. I received an email from one of my old roomies who was letting me know that she just got a job at the US Consulate in Merida, and will be moving down in May for 2 years!!!!!!!!! I am sooooo excited. I havent' seen her in ages!! The job sounds pretty decent to boot! They are supplying her with a home to live in, a decent salary, and a 2 year contract. Wow.
Old roomie is a very smart woman. She is a born and raised Texan - blonde and beautiful. She moved down to Cancun YEARS ago - worked at a few resorts in sales, and then back to Texas to complete law school. She studied spanish in Costa Rica for 3 months, and then moved back to Cancun. Where we met. I ended up leaving before she, but she did get transferred to Turks and Caicos for a year or two.... Now she's headed back to a place she LOVES to call home. Mexico!!!
I am so happy to have a friend who will be close by, and happy that she is just SO happy!!! (cliche???!!!)
Bienvenidos rooomie!!!!!
