La Roja vs. Naranja!!

Well, well...it is a sad post for me.... This coming Sunday the final match of the World Cup 2010 will be played. I will have to wait another 4 patient years for the greatest sporting event in the world to take place in Brazil. AHHHH!!!! Withdrawl.

I, along with an estimated 1 BILLION other futbol fans will watch the Netherlands take on Spain for the title of the 2010 World Cup Champions. Interestingly enough, neither have ever won the title, but both teams have always been highly respected.

I personally am rooting for La Roja!!! My hubby is actually half Spanish so it comes by default, but in all fairness I am most impressed with the style of soccer the Spaniards are putting forth. At the end of the day if the Netherlands end up with the win I admit I won`t be disappointed. I was really hoping we would have a new World Cup Champ and with these two teams playing one another we are guaranteed one. All in all, I think this is going to be one hell of a match!!!

So, in preparation for the next 4 years of withdrawl, hubby and I have made a firm decision that we are going to attend the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Thank you hubbs - you really are the BEST!!!

Viva FIFA!!!

Watching a game in style...

The screen that we watched the game on....

Well yesterday was the end to Mexicos World Cup dream. We played Argentina and were left defeated, and will have to wait another 4 years for another shot at advancing past the round of 16. Now I won't bore everyone with my "I hate FIFA rules" right now, but I do. Instead, I will look forward to the rest of the tournament, and pray that FIFA changes some of it's ways. Like adding "replays" on certain plays. One can only dream.

Hubby and our friend lined up the other day at our VIP cines to buy tickets to watch yesterdays match. I don't know about other cities in Mexico, but Cancun has one VIP theatre that is amazing. I am talking lazy boy reclining seats, waiters, menu of non and alcoholic beverages, and real food. Heck, you can order sushi if you want.

My paps and I taking it all in.......

Hubbs ended up getting 5 tickets for us, and our friend bought 2 for himself and his gringa girlfriend. The game was being played in 3-D so we had to wear those all-too-stylish glasses. It was a first for me, and how different it was. I'm still not sure if I liked it, but the experience was great. How often does one get that experience? I had a 40 ft screen, was served my bevvies, and I laid back in my seat. The only thing that would have made it better? A win.... hahaha. Truth be told, I was ready for the loss.

Hubbs and I doing our best Kanye look!!!

Anyways, for anyone who visits Cancun I really do suggest taking in a movie at the VIPS. The only difference is that during a movie they will not continue taking orders, so order all that you want at the beginning of the show!!

We live to play another game... :)

This week has been full of fantastic soccer matches for us to watch. As a soccer fan we have had some major surprises, and upsets. Mexico, thankfully, has advanced to the next round...even after our...hmmmpph...loss to Uruguay the other day. Aguirre and his squad can now get ready to face Maradona and Messi. Oh, I was seriously hoping Messi would get a red card or something so that he wouldn't be able to play on Sunday, but he didn't. For all you Argentina fans, don't cuss me out...it's not like I was wishing for an injury or anything...just a nice red card!!

Everyone wanted to see a couple photos of my new place, and since I still haven't found my camera...these 2 photos taken from our Blackberry will have to do.

The other morning our friends came over bright and early to make breakfast before the big match....nothing like tacos and beer at 8 in the morning!! LOL!! Gotta love World Cup.

So, here are two pictures....you can see the lovely art my hubby has hung in our dining room.... Also, us cooking up a storm en mi cocina!!!

More pics to come I promise....oh where oh where art thou my camera???

***Total side note, what a game the USA played today!!!! Yeahhhhh USA!!!!***

Give me one reason to watch.....

In less than 38 days the GREATEST sporting event in the world will have it's opening ceremonies - World Cup 2010 in South Africa. I, like many soccer/futbol fans wait patiently for these games to take place every 4 years. This round is no different.... The last World Cup took place 4 years ago in Germany, and my family had the pleasure of going ... without me. Tear. This year with it taking place in S. Africa we weren't sure if it would be safe to travel or not. There is always 2014 in Brazil.
The host nation will take on Mexico for the opening match on June 11th, 2010. This is going to be a huge game for Mexico and South Africa as all of Mexico expects their team to win, and a lot of other people are rooting for the host nation.... Never had anyone imagined that S. Africa would be ready to host such an event. With the apartheid ending not even 20 years ago, and rugby and soccer dueling to be the nations BIG sport, all factors that should make the game a very entertaining one to watch. I, of course, will be chearing for Mexico.

This morning I was searching some of my favourite gossip sites, and I fell upon an article that I know many of my female readers, whether fans of soccer/futbol or not, will enjoy. Vanity Fair has put together a brief video, and pictorial for an upcoming issue. You can view this on-line now here : http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2010/05/world-cup-cover-story.html&prev=/search%3Fq=vanity+fair&hl=es&rurl=translate.google.es&usg=ALkJrhiWh73SWMce2RuJG4H0qqdmzQD4gQ
Basically, some of my favourite players are wearing not much more than a pair of briefs with their home countries flag. Never has patriotism looked so good. At least for Portugal ...hello Christiano Ronaldo...
If you can't tell... I'm just a little bit of a futbol NUT!!!! To some people it is fair to say that futbol is their religion. To me, that wouldn't be stretching too far from the truth. Televisions will be tuned for 30 days to any match that will be played, people will ditch work, ditch school, just to get a glimpse of some of the best players in the world battling for that one cup. The World Cup. Bragging rights for the next 4 years.

I can't wait.

Nos vamos al mundial, nos vamos al mundial!! ahueves!!!

It's official folks - yesterday Mexico clinched a spot in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa!! Only the largest sporting event in the world...as in most watched!

I'm counting on you El Tri - as my other teams aren't looking hopeful. |If Portugal doesn't make it there certainly won't be the eye candy of Ronaldo.... Oh right, I am still talking about soccer/futbol though!

Viva Mexico!!!!

World Cup 2010 ... NOT looking good for Mexico

Well, I am not sure how many of you follow soccer as religiously as I do.... Unlike life in Canada, Soccer/Futbol is like a religion in Mexico. I have heard that every town/city in Mexico had 2 things - a Church, and a soccer field!!

That being said - World Cup 2010 is around the corner, and qualifying has been going on for the past 3 years. Things are not looking good for good ol' Mexico. Currently, we are sitting in 4th place in our group, only the top 2 in each group advance. At this point, the 1st (Costa Rica), and 2nd (USA) would both have to lose 1 or more games each, and Mexico would have to go undefeated for the rest of the qualifying....

The last time Mexico did not make the World Cup was in 1974.... In 1990 they were disqualified for using players over the age limit allowed in Seoul '88 for the Olympics. **Quick fact** This penalty was applied to ALL Mexican national representatives of all sports for 2 years.

Just to give you an idea, here are some quick facts about the FIFA World Cup:
-Int'l football competition contested by men's national teams
-Occurs every 4 year since 1930
-Current format involves 32 teams
-Games are held in one host nation, usually switching continents every 4 years
-Most widely viewed sporting event in the world
- 715.1 million watching the 2006 final (take that American Idol!!)
- South Africa is hosting 2010 from June 11-July 11
- Brazil is hosting 2014

Okay, well all this being said - I forgot the most important... PRAYER!!! Pray for Mexico's national team - it may be their only hope!!!
